When Nature Shows Who’s in Charge
There are moments that humble you very quickly. Early June was one of those moments. A once-in-a-century storm with wind gusts well over 150 km/h swept through the region and left behind a scene that will stay with us for a long time: fallen trees, roofs torn off, roads blocked. And right in the middle of it all: people who showed up for each other immediately.
What deeply impresses in situations like these isn’t the destruction itself — it’s what happens afterwards. According to the George Herald, the Wilderness community, with Farm21 right at the heart of it, came together remarkably quickly after the storm to clean up and support those affected. Robert was here alone: Stephie and Thomas were in Switzerland, while he, Elton, and Chantel worked with full force and days of screaming chainsaws to clear the road of fallen trees.
Farm21 didn’t come through unscathed either. We have damage to report — but we’re still standing. And we’re grateful to be part of a community that gets to work.
Wilderness Beach: World-Class — and We Always Knew It
Sometimes you need external validation to remember what you see every day. Four South African beaches were recently ranked among the best in the world — and Wilderness Beach made the list. According to Jacaranda FM, it’s among the most beautiful beaches on the planet, complete with stunning photos and a fly-over that shows exactly why.
The waves break in long, even lines. The sand glows depending on the time of day. There’s nothing to explain. You simply have to see it.
We’re of course delighted that Wilderness now has an official place on the world map of beautiful beaches. Not because we need it — but because it might give people who’ve never been here the final nudge they need.

Next Update with the Full Team
Robert is currently back in Switzerland. He and Stephie are wrapping things up. Farewell celebrations with alphorn playing, bank appointments, government offices, leaving the apartment in move-in condition. Robert returns at the start of July, and Stephie follows in early August. For the first time in a long while, the whole team will be here for more than just a few days, and we can prepare together for the upcoming season!
