Keys in our hands. Title deed secured. Living on the property for the first weeks. It’s official: we’re now the proud owners of this beautiful piece of land!
Everything went (more or less) according to plan — though, as always, reality likes to sprinkle in a few “plot twists.”
The Good
Neighbors: Everyone we’ve met so far has been incredibly welcoming — kind, helpful, and easy to get along with. A great start and a big sigh of relief!
Rental units: Properly vacated on time, just as promised. And the property itself? Kept in a surprisingly decent state.
The Bad
Building plans: We were under the impression everything was approved… but turns out the process had been started, not finished. Bring on the paperwork party!
Rental houses: Since they were recently lived in, we expected them to be in decent condition — but they’ll need quite a bit more TLC than we thought.
The Ugly
Feathered and four-legged friends: We’ve got a few surprise animal residents, a rooster, some chickens, and a (temporary) horse. Which means that our resident city-boy, Thomas, who has never been responsible for a living creature, now wakes up early every day to feed these needy animals. (He may or may not already be plotting a chicken-braai… )
What’s Next?
As we’ve said before, this is going to be a slow-and-steady kind of project. Over the next few months, we’ll be mapping things out with meetings lined up with the municipality, town planner, architect, and landscaper to help us sketch a rough timeline and vision.
And exciting news — Robert is arriving later this month! He’s making the big move back to South Africa for good. We’re really looking forward to everything we’ll be able to build and achieve together.
Let the adventure begin!
